How does gini work?
A

gini works by securely accessing your transaction data in read-only mode. That gini can only import and display your transactions in the app.

When you provide the online banking username and password, this simply establishes a secure one-way, read-only connection with your bank allowing gini to download your transactions, balances, and bill due dates on your behalf directly to your device.

Is gini free?
A

gini is free to download. Users are allowed to use the current features on gini at no charge. If there are any changes to this, we will notify our users way ahead of time.

How safe is gini?
A

Here at gini, we take the security of your information very seriously. gini is read-only which means no one, not even you, can make transactions on your bank accounts or credit cards through gini.

We make sure all your information is safeguarded. gini is powered by Salt Edge, the global trusted guardian of banking data used by the likes of ING, Soc Gen, and BBVA – and licensed by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority, to ensure gini is as secure as your banking app.

I can not sync my account with gini. What should I do?
A

Very often, users may have simply entered the wrong credentials on gini. We recommend you to try logging into your online bank account first to verify that you have the right credentials. Then try with gini again. Remember, gini is case-sensitive.

Can I add more than one bank or link ?
A

Yes, you can! gini is actually made for this exact reason. Go to the settings page, tap on “Accounts” and tap on “Add new bank” and search for the bank you want to add. Don’t see your bank in the list? Contact us at hello@gini.co and let us know which bank you want to add to gini.

How come I cannot find my bank?
A

If you didn’t manage to find your bank in our bank list in the app, we most likely don’t support it yet. Send us a message at hello@gini.co to see what we can do for you.

Can I hide the transaction amounts?

Don’t want to see how much you spend in gini?

Here’s how you to hide the transaction amounts in the transaction feed:

1. Go to the General Settings page.

2. Under preferences, tap the toggle to hide your transaction amounts

Why are my recent transactions missing?
A

Gini operates on a one-time, read-only access and simply downloads the transactions on your behalf. For some banks, a new One-Time Password is sent to you every time you login for security reasons. Upon successful login, the latest data will be securely retrieved.

One of my transactions is duplicated, can I delete it?
A

We are sorry you have a duplicated transaction, you cannot delete transactions, but you can hide them from your feed with the “ignore” transaction function. Click on the transaction you want to ignore, tap on “More options” and tap, “Ignore transaction.” This will also readjust your monthly expenses.

Can I keep track of my cash expenses?
A

Yes, you can add your cash expensess. Simply select the withdrawal transaction on the app and input the desired amount. You can search for the merchant and categorize your transaction.

Can I change the category of my transaction?
A

You can! Simply tap on the transaction and tap on the category and select the category you want to change it to.

Every small act counts. For the few uncategorized or miscategorized transactions, we encourage our gini community to be part of this fintech revolution by telling us what they have spent on.

Why can I not create my own categories?
A

At the moment, you unfortunately cannot create your own categories, but gini is constantly taking customer feedback into account. So don’t get discouraged as we are always looking for a way to improve our app!

What does gini mean with Smart Notifcations?
A

gini has developed smart AI that can help you manage your finances. To ensure you are always on top of your finances, we will notify you in certain situations.

gini will notify you 3 days before your credit card due date so that you will never miss it again!

gini will also notify you whenever we detect you are charged a bank fee (e.g. credit card annual fee).

What are the notifications that I get from gini at night?
A

gini is powered by Salt Edge, which does a nightly auto refresh. This can trigger the notification from some banks. This feature was implemented based on feedback from most of our users, as they want the app to show the always up-to-date data.

Can I disconnect/delete any bank anytime?
A

Yes. You can disconnect any bank anytime. Go to the Settings and then Accounts, tap on the bank you want to disconnect, and you will see a popup appear on your screen. Click ‘Edit Preferences’, and you will see an option to delete the selected bank from gini. All records and data will be removed on both the device and server.

What do the two passwords on HSBC login page refer to?
A

To login with to your HSBC on gini, the only option is the Dual-password method. We currently do not support log in with security device or mobile security key. All HSBC users have 2 passwords: the Memorable Answer and the Password and they are both different.

For the 2nd Password, HSBC usually asked 3 characters/digits of the password randomly. On gini, you simply have to fill this password in full.

To login with to your Hang Seng on gini, the only option is the Dual-password method. All Hang Seng users have 2 passwords: the First Password and the Second Password.

For the 2nd Password, Hang Seng Bank usually asked 3 characters/digits of the password randomly. On gini, you simply have to input both passwords in full.
